Rules
Thumpstone SMP is a community-driven survival server where players are free to build, explore, trade, cooperate, compete, and create their own stories.
The best moments in Minecraft often come from the unexpected: discovering a hidden base, striking a business deal, embarking on a massive project, surviving a dangerous expedition, or getting caught up in a bit of friendly rivalry. We want to preserve that sense of adventure and player freedom.
The rules exist for one reason: to keep the server enjoyable for everyone. They are not intended to remove challenge, conflict, or creativity, but to prevent behaviour that genuinely harms the experience of other players or the community as a whole.
Use common sense, treat other players with basic respect, and focus on having fun.
Be Respectful
Treat other players with kindness and respect. The following are not permitted:
- Harassment, bullying, or personal attacks
- Hate speech or discriminatory language
- Excessive toxicity or intentionally causing drama
- Impersonating other players or staff
Disagreements happen, but keep them civil.
Respect Staff and Their Time
Our staff team are volunteers who help run the server in their spare time.
Please:
- Use the appropriate Discord channels when you need help
- Avoid repeatedly pinging staff members
- Do not send unsolicited direct messages to staff unless asked to do so
- Be patient while waiting for a response
Staff may not always be available immediately.
No Cheating or Exploiting
Play fairly.
The following are not allowed:
- Hacked clients
- X-ray resource packs or mods
- Duplication exploits
- Exploiting bugs or glitches for an advantage
- Any modification or automation that gives an unfair advantage over other players
If you discover an exploit, report it instead of using it.
Claims Define Ownership
If something is important, protect it with the claims system. Use /claim to protect your builds, items, and resources. Anything outside a claim is considered free of ownership and unprotected. Other players have permission to:
- Loot containers
- Take resources
- Salvage abandoned builds
- Modify or remove unclaimed structures
However, mindless destruction, harassment, or intentionally ruining another player’s experience is not permitted.
The difference is intent: resource gathering and survival gameplay are acceptable, while destruction for the sole purpose of upsetting other players is not.
Your claims will expire if you do no log in for 60 days, meaning anyone is free to raid them. We will not replace items taken from unclaimed chunks.
PvP is Allowed
Player versus Player combat is permitted.
However:
- Do not repeatedly target or harass the same player
- Do not use PvP to bully others
- Respect players who clearly do not wish to participate
Staff may intervene if PvP becomes disruptive or abusive.
Keep Chat Friendly
Help make chat welcoming for everyone.
These rules apply to:
- Public chat
- Private messages
- Discord channels
- Discord direct messages relating to the server
Please avoid:
- Harassment or bullying
- Hate speech
- Spam
- Excessive profanity
- Inappropriate or offensive content
- Advertising unrelated servers or communities
Private messages are not an exemption from the rules.
Build Responsibly
Be considerate of neighbouring players and the wider world.
Please:
- Avoid damaging terrain around active bases
- Respect nearby claims and projects
- Clean up temporary builds where practical
- Leave the world looking reasonably natural after large mining operations
Community resource areas should be used where available.
Farms, Entities and Performance
Thumpstone is designed to support large-scale survival builds, but server performance comes first.
Mob Farms
The server uses entity stacking and farm-limiting systems.
As a result:
- Farms that rely on entity cramming are not permitted
- Many entity-cramming designs will not function correctly
- Excessive entity accumulation may be automatically limited by server plugins
Please design farms with these limitations in mind.
Redstone
Complex redstone is welcome, but machines must be designed responsibly.
Staff may request changes to:
- Excessively laggy machines
- Unnecessarily active redstone systems
- Designs that negatively affect server performance
If a machine causes ongoing problems and the owner is unwilling to address them, staff may disable or remove it.
Chunk Loaders
Chunk loaders and chunk-loading exploits are not permitted.
The server’s optimisation systems intentionally restrict many chunk-loading methods, and any remaining methods are considered against the rules.
Build farms that operate while players are present rather than relying on chunk loading.
Wither Usage
Withers are permitted.
To prevent griefing, damage from Wither explosions and skulls is disabled globally.
Any attempt to use Withers to disrupt players or server performance may result in staff intervention.
Follow Staff Instructions
Staff decisions are made in the best interests of the community.
If a staff member asks you to stop doing something, please do so.
If you disagree with a decision, discuss it calmly through the appropriate channels rather than arguing publicly.
Common Sense Applies
No rules page can cover every situation.
If something is technically allowed but clearly harmful to other players, the community, or server performance, staff may still take action.
When in doubt, ask.
Enforcement
Rule violations may result in:
- Warnings
- Temporary restrictions
- Temporary bans
- Permanent bans
The severity of any action will depend on the situation and the player’s history.
Most Importantly…
Have fun.
Build amazing things, meet new people, and help make Thumpstone SMP a great place to play.
