About Thumpstone SMP
Thumpstone SMP is a free, 18+, English-speaking Vanilla+ Minecraft survival server hosted in Europe, for Java and Bedrock players. Players claim land, grow settlements, form nations, run a player-driven economy and, if they choose, go to war. PvP is off by default and opt-in: you only fight other players if you both turn PvP on, if your nation goes to war, or if you wander too close to warzones. Seasons last about a year, and the current season, Season 2: Age of Nations, runs from August 2026 to August 2027. New players can join at any point in the season.
Expect a relaxed, mature community where you can build, trade and explore in peace, with nation-vs-nation wars available for players who want competition.

Who Thumpstone is for
- Adults who want a calm, long-term survival server rather than a minigame network or an anarchy server.
- Builders and settlers who want their work protected by land claims.
- Players who don’t want to be ganked. PvP is opt-in, so you can play the whole season without being attacked. The main exceptions are joining a nation that goes to war, or straying right up to the border of a nation that’s at war.
- Strategy-minded players who enjoy forming nations, diplomacy, alliances and wars.
- Traders and economy players who like running shops in a player-driven market.
- Solo players, who can progress through jobs, skills, exploration and trade without joining a group.
Optional PvP: how it works
PvP on Thumpstone is voluntary. It is off for every player, everywhere, by default.
- Both players opt in. A fight can only happen when both players have PvP switched on. Use
/pvp onor/pvp off, and/pvpto see your current status. - No escaping mid-fight. You can’t switch PvP off while you’re in combat, and you can only change your setting once every 60 seconds.
- Wars override the toggle. You can switch PvP on or off at any time unless your nation is at war. Once a war starts, the war system takes over, and the two sides can fight each other anywhere until it ends, whatever their PvP setting. Joining a nation is how you accept that risk.
- Border defence. From the moment war is declared, members of the warring nations who have PvP on and are standing outside their own claim can attack any player who strays within one chunk of their land, whatever that player’s PvP setting. Keep clear of warring nations’ borders.
Lands: claim and protect your builds
Thumpstone uses the Lands plugin for land claims. Claims protect complete 16×16 chunks, so your builds are safe inside them. Anything outside a claim is unprotected.
- Your first claim is free. Further chunks start at £150 and rise by £25 per claim, up to £2,500 per chunk.
- One Land per player in the Overworld, with the option to unlock one in the Nether and one in the End. You can be a member of several Lands but own only one.
- Room to grow. A Land starts with 25 chunks and 50 members, can have a main settlement plus up to two outposts, and can define up to 25 Areas.
- Settlement levels. Lands level up from Settlement through Hamlet, Village, Town, Capital and City to Province as they gain members, territory and bank balance, unlocking more chunks and lower upkeep.
- Upkeep. A standalone settlement pays £30 per claimed chunk each week from its Land bank. If it can’t pay, the most recently claimed chunks are unclaimed.
- Roles. Owner, Steward, Officer and Member, plus special roles for Nation members, Allies, Visitors and Tenants. You can edit them or create your own.
- Private communication. Land/Nation chat in-game, and private Discord text and voice channels visible only to your Land/Nation members.
Nations and diplomacy
- Founding a nation. The owner of a Land can create a nation and their Land becomes the capital. Other settlements can be invited to join.
- Lands keep their identity. Joining a nation doesn’t merge or destroy a settlement. Each Land keeps its own territory, owner, members, roles and bank.
- Five levels. Nations grow from Nation through Kingdom, Empire and Dominion to Empire of Ages. A new nation can hold 3 Lands, and higher levels allow more Lands, give every member Land extra claims and reduce upkeep.
- Nation economy. Member Lands stop paying upkeep to the server. Instead, the nation can tax them up to £40 per claimed chunk, and pays £8 per chunk in upkeep itself.
- Diplomacy. Nations can form alliances, stay neutral or become enemies. Only nations can declare war; individual settlements can’t.
At the end of each season, the winning nation is decided by its member count, territory size and bank balance.
Nation wars
Wars are skirmishes between nations. They are declared in advance and follow set rules, so they don’t take over everyday play.
- Declaring. Wars can be declared any day between 17:00 and 21:59 UTC. Each side needs at least 3 trusted members, and nations must be at least 14 days old. The attacker needs £25,000 in its bank and the defender £10,000. The defender must have a member online and no active shield. New nations get a 14-day shield.
- Timing. Both sides get 24 hours to prepare. The war then lasts up to 4 hours and ends early if one side reaches the winning score.
- Scoring. Points come from kills (1), capturing territory with a capture flag (10), and breaking (3) or blowing up (5) an enemy flag. The winning score is 5 × the number of players in the smaller nation, with a minimum of 60.
- Capture flags. Flags are placed on the edge of enemy land and must be held for 15 minutes while attackers outnumber defenders. Captured chunks stay with the attacker.
- Outcomes. The winner takes 20% of the loser’s nation bank. Surrendering costs 10%, and a draw costs nothing. Afterwards the loser gets a 14-day shield and the winner a 3-day shield.
- No griefing. Invaders can enter enemy land, fight, pick up dropped items and climb with ladders, vines or scaffolding, but can’t open chests or break or place other blocks. A Land can only be attacked while at least one of its members is online.
- Where you can fight. Once a war starts, the two sides can fight each other anywhere, including in the wilderness and inside each other’s claims. The only claimed land that counts as a battleground is the two warring nations’ own; allies’ and other players’ claims stay off-limits.
/spawn,/tpa,/tprand warps are disabled during a war.
Player-driven economy
- No admin shop with fixed prices, apart from a handful of basic starter items. Money enters through Jobs and moves between players through trade.
- Chest shops (QuickShop-Hikari) with no limit on how many you run.
/shop browseshows every shop and its average prices. - Player warps to advertise shops and markets.
- Rentable areas, so landowners can earn rent from tenants.
- Spawners can be mined with Silk Touch and bank their drops and XP. Drops can be sold for cash directly from the spawners.
- mcMMO skills level up as you play and unlock free Guild Ranks.
